Contrary to what most people think, gum  treatment is simple, and you can avoid dental extractions by maintaining the patients´ teeth, even in the most advanced cases. This treatment cures the  patient, eliminating an infection that can affect the overall health of the organism. If you have  been told you have to have all your teeth removed, it´s advisable to get a second opinion: in most cases they can be saved. Keeping your teeth is much more convenient, less invasive, less complicated and less expensive, compared to  removing them all and replacing them with dental implants.

Periodontal treatment involves the removal of plaque and tartar that is below the gumline.

Sometimes this treatment must be accompanied by a dose of antibiotics. It tends to be a two phase treatment. The first phase of this treatment is carried out in in the least invasive way possible, without surgery, using the so-called procedures scaling and root planning.     In some cases, for patients with more advanced problems, we must also conduct the second phase, which is a periodontal surgery (minor operation) to enable us to have better access to the roots and thus remove tartar that is deeper. In such cases, we can even apply periodontal regeneration techniques to recover some of the losses because of infection structures. However, most cases do not require surgery.

Once the treatment has been completed, the patient has to keep to their periodontal maintenance  appointments, so as to avoid the recurrence of periodontitis. These appointments are tailored to the individual needs of each patient, but generally it´s twice a year.

On the other hand, patients who have already lost their teeth, can opt for dental implants. There are numerous techniques to place these implants: from immediately loading techniques (the patient leaves the clinic with fixed temporary teeth) to more conservative techniques, in which you have to wait a few months before fixing the prosthesis, particularly if they have  had bone regeneration.  Each technique has its indication, so each case must be evaluated individually.   Dr. Guerrero came in contact with  implants at the University of Umea, Sweden, in 1995 and since then has continued along with his team to learn from the hundreds of cases they have treated. Dental implants are not without complications  and are not for life as was once thought.  However, the vast experience gained over the last 15 years has enables us to adapt  the most simple, safe and reasonable procedure for each patient, anticipating possible complications. If you are a patient eligible to receive dental implants you have the opportunity to discuss all these treatment options with us to find the one that best suits your needs in the context of a safe and sound treatment.

Dental implants work very well, however, at times  infections can arise, such as peri-implant  diseases or peri-implantitis (diseases around the bone and gum surrounding the dental implants).Treatment of these infections is  carried out with the intention of halting the loss of bone to maintain the stability of the implants.

On the other hand, we also conduct minor operations to cover the shrinkage of the gums by periodontal minimally invasive microsurgical techniques (using a surgical microscope) which allows us to cover the roots of these teeth which have developed gingival recession.

In addition, we carry out any procedure that is related to the gums, from aesthetic remodeling, biopsies for mucosal lesions, gum grafts for cosmetic purposes, etc.

All surgeries are performed under local anesthesia, with optional support of oral sedation or intravenous sedation to be performed by a specialist in anesthesia  of our team.

Clinica Guerrero has a a state-of-the–art 3D image equipment for radiological diagnostics  as well as complete digital dental radiology for our patients, which is easy and convenient, saving them the trouble of having to arrange their x rays in a separate radiological clinic.

We welcome all patients that are interested in having a consultation to accurately  assess their gum condition and discuss the available treatment and prevention options which would be most suitable to the individuals requirements.  Our management team will schedule an  appointment for you (you may request this on line by filling in a short form under the  section “contact us” or call us on +34 952212490).  During the assessment you will receive a meticulous exploration of your mouth, an evaluation of your x-rays, a complete diagnosis and a proposed treatment plan to meet your individual needs.  The Management Team will send this information to you in writing and will inform you of your treatment planning structure. Please contact us by email or telephone if you require any further information that will facilitate your appointment with us.

Since we opened our dental practice, we have taken on new patients referred to us by other dentists for the specialist treatment of treating their  gum condition or  the  surgical phase of their dental implants.  If this is your case,  your dentist will receive detailed reports of your existing condition as well as its long term development once treatment is in course.  You will also receive copies of each of your dental reports for your own records. Other patients come to us because we have been recommended to them by existing patients or they find us  on line.  We inform all of our patients that our clinic  also acts as a centre for clinical research amongst several European research groups  involved in the evolution and investigating of Periodontology and dental implants.  At present we are conducting several research projects in which we are treating patients with certain characteristics. If you were eligible to participate in any of these studies, you will be invited to participate voluntarily and if accepted, you would obtain  benefits  for it and  at the same time you will help to improve the treatment of future patients.
